 In Memoriam
Meredith Beery was appointed to the Knox County Public Library Board by the Knox County Council in December 1995. She replaced John DeCoursey who served from 1991-1995. Meredith's first Knox County Public Library Board meeting was on January 29, 1996. Her final four year term on the KCPL Board was to expire on December 31, 2011.
Merry served as President of the Knox County Public Library Board in 1999. From 2002 until she died, Merry served as Treasurer of the Knox County Public Library Board. We already miss Merry. We don't know how we'll get along without her bright smile and encouraging words. We wish to express gratitude to Merry's family for supporting her service on the KCPL Board for more than 14 years. We extend our deepest sympathy to them.
During a special public Knox County Public Library Board meeting on Thursday, January 28, 2010, upon a motion by board member, David Roellgen, the board unanimously decided to name the public meeting room in the McGrady-Brockman House the Merry Beery room.
During the meeting, Roellgen recalled that during the process of purchasing the building in 1999, as KCPL Board President, Merry Beery insisted that a main floor room of the building be designated for use as a meeting room for anyone in the community. The building was to serve primarily as a regional historical/genealogical center and Merry wanted to be certain that the building was available for the entire community.
A ceremony to rededicate the room in memory of Merry will be planned with Merry’s family and announced at a later date.
